As Linda Smith so simply and eloquently stated:

>It's very simple: Quiet babies and quiet adults are compatible with
>learning. Noisy babies and noisy adults are not.

I've spoken in 30+ of the 50 states, and would heartily agree. The problem
comes when adult learners (mothers and others) don't take themselves OUT of
the conference room to handle whatever is more urgent than learning for
*them*--a baby with a need, a pager or cell phone alerting them to a
patient's need, or whatever. They need to handle the urgent need, but allow
others to concentrate on the session they've paid for.

So in defense of the group who has instituted a "no babies policy" I'd just
like to say that maybe they're dealing with a "no-exit-mom" which lead to
other participants rightfully complaining, and conference directors decided
to make a rule for the group, rather than speak to one individual about
what really amounts to just bad manners.

A broader "rule" which does not identify babies as the noise-makers might
be more useful.
