A journalist looks at a range of professional views on this
topic....pro and con.

The article is written because this piece appeared last week, written
by a paediatric pathologist:

His use of stats is very poor. He is also writing from his post in
inner London, an area with special social and economic issues which
would impact on the figures.

He says: 'From my own experience, something approaching 70% of the
children who die in the first year of life are sleeping in the same
bed or on the same sofa as one or both parents. An element of
overlying, or overheating is an obvious concern. We also recognise
that co-sleeping seems particularly dangerous when the parents smoke.'
