I have searched the archives and read past suggestions, but I am wondering if anyone has new ideas on healing deep nipple wounds. Latest inquiry: A mom called me last night (she does not live near me). She has a 6 week old baby, gaining beautifully, nursing well on both sides, plenty of milk. Her left side has a "crater" type wound at the base of the nipple. She has tried APNO, hydrogel pads, bactroban, nursing on one side each feeding and was treated for thrush which she may or may not have even had. Pumping is painful even on the lowest setting and appropriate size flange (as reported by mom). I've read about success with breast shells, Epsom salt soaks, medihoney, amorphous hydrogel, but some of my clients really have a hard time with non healing wounds. Which is better? Moist wound healing or open air healing? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer me.
