)

"The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends mothers breast feed for a
full year, however many don't. Breast-feeding helps boast a child's immune
system and regulate eating. Breastfeeding also protects against ear
infections, reduces risks of allergies, helps prevent diarrhea, and bolsters
resistance to respiratory infections. A new study found it safe guard
against leukemia however, breastfeeding may not make a child smarter, cut
down on colds and the flu, or make a child feel more secure."

"New information suggests that soy formula may provide other health benefits
that breastfeeding does not. For example, some research suggests that soy
may offer babies an early shield against some forms of cancer"

"1 to 2 years of age:
Move your baby off formula and breast milk to cow's whole milk or fortified
soy milk. You shouldn't feed your baby skim milk regardless of if he or she
is a little chubby, babies need the fat and calories. Babies should be
weaned off formula because they tend to drink more and eat less food."

comments. They need to print a complete total retraction of these statements
and run a segment on breastfeeding benefits. This is damaging
misinformation.

The comments come from Mindy Herman, a contributing editor to "Child
