For many women there is a appreciable drop in the calcium levels in their
blood from mid-cycle till the start of the next menses. This is part of what
causes uterine cramping pre-menstrually.

I recommend that mom who is having a supply problem related to her cycle
take a calcium/magnesium supplement from day 14 of her cycle through day 2
of her present period. (And I don't mean Tums. I do not consider that a
nutritional supplement; in fact, with its being an antacid one can decrease
her calcium assimilation.) The amount that she takes depends on her diet.
If she is using dairy products I suggest 500mg of Ca. and 250mg of
magnesium. If not, she would add this much to her present ca/mag supplement.

The moms with supply problems have found it to resolve the problem. My
daughters have also found it relieves their uterine cramping before and
during the first couple of days of their periods.

As for tasteof the milk, I suppose that the decrease in supply could affect
the taste too.
