>> I confess that I still look askance at bottlefeeding mamas and babies
unless what's in the bottle is obviously breastmilk.

Thank you for your honesty! And, you know I used to do that too until I
realized (through my practice) that there are many moms who cannot
breastfeed, don't have breastmilk and must use formula or their babies die
from starvation.

We had a discussion in my mommy group yesterday on this topic - how now it
seems to be a 50/50 negative reaction to not only a woman BF in public but a
woman bottle feeding in public. One mom talked about a dear friend of hers
diagnosed with severe hypoplasia - not a drop of milk did she have - who was
devastated she had nothing to provide her baby. It was one of her dreams to
breastfeed - grow the baby on the inside and grow the baby on the outside.
While out one day and bottlefeeding her baby formula, a stranger walked up
to her and said "Don't you know breastmilk is best? How can you feed your
baby that slop?" Now granted that stranger was unbelievably RUDE - but it
makes a point...when we see someone bottlefeeding and we know it is formula
we don't know if that woman chose to bottlefeed or had no choice but to
bottlefeed...tricky spot to be in...

Warmly,
