Amy, The lactoengineering to increase calories will increase fat content, but not protein. If he's healing from burns, I think the protein is the issue. I haven't worked in any type of burn unit, even adult, however, in thinking about growing new tissue, protein would be the important part. I'm guessing that even the average adult diet may not be necessarily high enough in protein to heal moderate to severe burns. In any case, this mom's breastfeeding is important in preventing infection--something for which burn patients are at very high risk. Do they have a pediatric dietitian who can figure out his food intake vs. his needs??? Shriners has a pediatric burn center in Boston, MA. It's a wonderful place. I am guessing there would be someone there (ie, dietitian) who could help you figure out what this child needs to help heal him quicker. Good luck
