Janice Berry posted a concern about quality of breastfeeding care at a US
Baby-Friendly designated hospital. Currently, there are no international
standards for on-going evaluation of hospitals and birth centers which have
been awarded Baby-Friendly designation. There is a working committee
looking at this issue in the US. We anticipate putting a procedure for
on-going evaluation in place by the end of this year in the US. Look for
an article by Karin Cadwell, PhD, Convener of Baby-Friendly USA in an
upcoming issue of JHL.

I welcome input on this topic. I am particularly interested in hearing
about how these issues is being addressed in other countries.

Cindy Turner-Maffei, Coordinator
Baby-Friendly USA
