Greetings,
As I am preparing an inservice on the "effects of breastfeeding promotion"
for assorted medical professionals, I am thinking about exporing the general
audience's view on the passion that lactation consultants have for the
promotion and protection of breastfeeding. I am anticipating some
"throw-ups" on the idea that "overzealousness can turn a new mother off "
and would appreciate responses from this respected group.
More specifically:
1. why are there distinctive differences in opinion between medical
professionals as to how and how far we should go with encouraging a woman to
breastfeed or continue to breastfeed?
2. why do some physicians continue to believe that we can make a mother feel
like a failure? if she does not breastfeed?
3. Why is the subject of breastfeeding so intensly personal?
I am just trying to look at all the angles that might be thrown at me during
this interactive presentation. I'm hoping I can actually possibly maybe
leave the audience with some food for thought on the effects of NOT
promoting breastfeeding. ( Like what would happen if doctors and nurses went
back to being neutral in the hopes that they don't turn the mother off and
lose her as a client)
Boy! I sure would love a few words of wisdom from K. Dettwyler or P.
VanEsterick right about now!
TIA and my love to all ( the best list of people on the internet)
