FYI:
The AAP’s electronic media mailing for February is scheduled for distribution
on Friday, January 28. The mailing promotes the February issue of
Pediatrics, embargoed for Monday, February 7, at 12:01 am (ET). Below are some of the
topics that may garner media attention:

Revised breastfeeding recommendations – The AAP is issuing a revised policy
statement on “Breastfeeding and the Use of Human Milk” to replace its existing
policy developed in 1997. No major changes. Some of the revised
recommendations include: exclusive breastfeeding for approximately the first six months,
and support for breastfeeding for the first year; mother and infant should
sleep in proximity to each other; self-examination of mother’s breasts for lumps
throughout lactation not just after weaning; and newborn breastfed infant
should be examined three to five days of age, and again at two to three weeks of
age to be sure the infant is feeding and growing well. Speaking points will be
available on the Member Center on January 28 at http://www.aap.org/moc/
