I feel as if I should know this, but I am unsure what is going on with a
client. Baby is 5 days old, mature milk came in 2 days ago, no engorgement
because baby has been emptying the breasts well.

She has no sore nipples, baby latches well (after some efforts) and feeds
fully, but the mother's breasts are very painful when he feeds. It is
worse if a breast is very full. When he is suckling well and we hear
drinking, it is the most painful. I've told her that it is
temporary--hoping that I am right.

I've been looking for yeast, as the mother tested positive for Beta Strep
and had abx, but the usual yeast symptoms aren't there. There aren't lumps
and the breasts are soft after feeds.

I have had mothers say that it feels as if the baby is stripping the milk
ducts (usually yeast), but this mother isn't describing it like that.

What else could be causing this breast pain?
