I have no idea WHERE they get these ideas - I didn't go to nursing school.
(medical school was bad enough re breastfeeding nonsense). In my nursery they
have heard of / and do Kangaroo Care, dry breastfeeding, cup feeding etc. but
some of them still don't believe in it, and actively or passively fight
against some of it! Last night while I was the in-house Neonatologist, I had
a mother call me when she got HOME. She knew I was in the hospital but didn't
want to talk to me in front of her infant's nurse, who had told her her baby
was "too tired" to breast feed. I went back in the nursey and wrote an order
on the chart that the infant was not to be gavaged or bottle-fed when mother
was there. Got a few raised eyebrows. We'll see if it sticks (I don't have
the reputation of a pushy b----- for nothing!).
