i don't find much of anyone (I can really only think of one person who was
unaware of "reasons why breastfeeding is good") and she actually understood
that it was good, she just didn't know it was recommended to go past four
months) who doesn't know to parrot the party line - "breastfeeding is best."
but, they don't have a clue that formula is BAD. when i try to share the
wisdom with people they are sometimes stunned. i try to put it as gently as
possible, i have a handout which i think is honest but not offensive -
really, i would like to title it "why put poison in your baby's mouth?"

they really believe that FORMULA IS EQUAL. of course they do! not everybody
is just stupid. they are uninformed. and their HCPs are the ones who are not
talking. and the hospital staff. and many LCs. i know one who starts out
conversations with me saying "i know you think formula is bad, but its really
not!"

and you know what? none of the people at the doctor's offices or the hospital
think formula is bad. even the lactation consultants. they are pretty quick
to give the moms a bottle of you-know-what in the hospital. never a word
about the dangers of formula. its a proven remedy for whatever ails your baby.

and famous breastfeeding support groups "aren't allowed" to dis formula, so
why should moms think it is bad? i can hardly convince some of them that a
daily bottle of formula is bad - especially when their doctors tell them to
do it!

only the ones who find their babies severely allergic to various things at
three months and realize the problem started - guess what? - way back in the
hospital when the friendly nursery staff "helped her get rest" by taking the
baby to the nursery and feeding him. they are sickened by what they weren't
told. (now if i could only get one to sue.)
