Dear Friends:
       I know of 2 clients who had had extensive gut surgery including a
bypass, one of them mine, who had problems with baby faltering in growth. Milk
supply was sufficient, yet baby stopped growing. A registered dietician (see the
value of inter-discipinary collaboration!) suggested that the GI surgery had
removed enough gut wall to prevent the formation of various factors that aid in
digestion of particular nutrients. Kind of like a 'short-gut' syndrome.
       So monitor that infant growth; and, stress the need for exclusive,
infant cue-based breastfeeding. Do everything possible to maximize supply. Easier
to make it go away later than to try and bring it up at a few months out.
