Hi,
Wanted to share a lovely experience I had today at work. I was helping a
young 16 year old Mom latch her baby. Her great-grandmother (she looked
around 50) and brother and cousin were in the room. The two boys were
around 11 and 12yrs. The boys looked a little uncomfortable and averted
their eyes while baby fed. (I had already asked if Mom wished anyone to
step out or a curtain pulled). Great grandmother said to the boys, "You
boys just go ahead and look, watch that baby feed. This is what babies are
meant to do, what breasts are really for. I want you to know all about this
so when you have babies you will know how they should be fed, and you can
say my baby breastfeeds!" I was particularly delighted because this was in
a population that typically has low breastfeeding rates. What a wonderful
start for this baby!
