Dear Martha Stewart,

As a sewing instructor for eight years, I have enjoyed the creative
inspiration you provide. However, I was saddened recently by your baby
shower ideas. I am also a Breastfeeding Educator and WIC Peer Counselor.
As I'm sure you know, Breastfeeding is the best (and normal!) way to
feed our babies and research is continuously finding new reasons to
provide only breastmilk to our little ones. Formula feeding, although
sometimes necessary, carries well documented risks, and should not be
promoted by idealization of bottles and pacifiers!

Perhaps you could suggest some other useful projects for a baby shower
(for breastfeeding OR formula feeding moms). Please consider the
following:

Candy or small items wrapped in a baby washcloth, tied with a ribbon

Baby washcloths rolled into a "flower" (Washcloths are easy to make in
fun colors also)

Washcloth folded and tied into a "boo boo bunny"

Baby towel or blanket folded and tied into a doll (I have directions if
you want them)

Towel or blanket used as wrapping

Baby toy links (ovals or fish or whatever) used as napkin rings

Name Place markers on paper folded in shape of a diaper (Or place mats?)

Napkins folded into "diaper"

Gift Certificates (Hand made or Purchased) for restaurant or homemade
food ( meals, bread, cookies, muffins, etc...) Or for housework
(laundry, dishes, cleaning, etc...) After baby is born

Sincerely,
Margaret Porter
