I never realized other hospitals examined babies outside of the room.

The one thing about Janene's birth I would do over again is her glucose
tests every so often. She always had to go to the nursery to get them
done and as we would not allow her to go without a family member, there
were times of stress when the nurse was wanting to do the test
immediately and I was in the bathroom or whatever. Also, when my
husband was gone, only I could go because only I was banded. This
situation was not positive and at one point I was in the bathroom and
the nurse did not want to wait and my mom was there. I very quietly but
firmly informed the nurse that she could either wait or take my mom. My
mom said she quietly walked over during this discussion and picked up
Janene and sat down with her, so the nurse did not have the option of
just taking the baby. Finally after realizing I was not going to
relent, she agreed to let my mother go.

If I am every pregnant again and I have GD again, I will simply bring
along my blood monitor with me and I will insist on monitoring my baby's
blood sugar myself, in my room. That seems most logical. Or the nurse
can come do it herself in the room. Almost anything that can be done in
a nursery can also be done in the room, and should be.

If something would have been wrong she would have asked for more light etc.... I always appreciated how respectful she was of the atmosphere in the room at that time.
