Hi! I'd like to introduce myself since this is my first post. My name is
Wendy Steltz, I'm a nutritionist working with a pediatric group. I'm
studying to become a LC (hopefully IBLCL). I have found two very different
breastmilk storage guidelines and I'm hoping someone can give me the most
accurate before I make recommendations to my patients. The La Leche League
website states that breastmilk can be stored (mature milk)in 32-39 degrees
(refrigerated) for up to 8 days.
website (www.lalecheleague.org/NB/NBJul/Aug98p109.html).
On the AAP website (www.aap.org/family/brstguid.htm)the guidelines are to
discard after 2 days refrigeration. Does anyone know which one is correct?
I am also a nursing mother (5 month old) and would like the info for
myself. TIA
