Hi kerri and all,
I hear this so often and it really makes me sad. I turn around and tell those moms, that leaving your baby has nothing at all to do with breastfeeding. Babies places are in their moms' arms, and just like you carried him snug for 9 months, it will take him time til he can survive without you. This is essential for his emotional growth, not his nutritional growth!! The importance of this connection cannot be overstated. Breastfeeding makes it all the more natural and all the easier because by answering his nutritional needs then usually his emotional needs are automatically met. This is motherhood, parenthood, this is not like buying a puppy for Christmas (or Hanukkah)!!
That usually makes em think.

Subject: ideas for class teaching about bonding

Hi Everyone,

I had another mother tell me today that she's not sure about breastfeeding because she won't be able to leave the baby. And have dealt with alot of clients lately that just don't want to put in the work to breastfeed. So tired of people worried about newborns being too dependent!

So, I wondered about some sort of game/exercise to do with my prenatal breastfeeding class to get across the importance of bonding and dependence of babies.....

Any thoughts? I use with permission many of Diane Wiessinger's handouts. I have a fun slide about mammals and all the different kinds of mammilian milk and point to human's as mammals. I discuss skin to skin and that usually is well received......but I want some sort of ah ha exercise - I keep thinking of Linda Smith's line about not having babies to make our lives any easier! I'm fully realizing that with two teenagers in my house:-).

If anyone has anything to share, I'd love to hear from you!
