Tina, Once again my thanks for your wonderful bringing of the conference
to us on the Net. Your personal geneology is marvelous! Ever read Gay
Coulter's books, loosely based on her own grandmother who was a midwife?
However, I have some doubts about your generalization about the more
"feminist" a country seems to be, the higher the bf rates.... In SOME
ways, Israel is one of the most "feminist" countries in the world (Golda
Meir as Prime Minister in the very early 70s, women in the front lines
during War of Independence in 1948, and conscripted into the army just
like men ever since [but in general not in combat positions][my daughter
is a sergeant and qualified on 3 weapons....], we've had 3
months paid maternity leave at least for the last 30 years, plenty of day
care available, and more), but the bf duration rate here is abysmal
unless you examine special populations, some of which are, contrarily,
non-"feminist" in the sense to which you refer (I'm thinking here of the
ultra-religious). Generalizations are tricky - there always seems to be
someone out there to knock out your beautiful theory.....Judy K. who
really would rather NOT be the spoilsport
