Dear Lact-gurus,

Just had our baby in for a weight check, and she gained 3.7 ounces in just
under 72 hours. Yippee!! Mom says she is paying far more attention to HOW
she is bf; is not switching her back and forth after 5-10 minutes, but is
deliberately keeping her on one side for prolonged periods of time, checking
her suck and doing breast compression as soon as she starts to slow her
suck/swallow pattern. Feedings simply take longer than they do with her other
children. Her stools are still 2 a day, but are ENORMOUS (2-3 diapers worth).
Mom feels as though her breasts are fuller and she has more milk. The
fenugreek made her feel "icky" and nauseated, so she only took two doses of
that. Since punkin is gaining better on just changing the bf "pattern" we
aren't doing anything else, but she'll come in for another weight check early
next week.

Thanks for all your help -- just goes to show that even a 7th time mom with 6
successful breastfeeding experiences in the past can use our help.... also
reinforces the need to teach about stools in the first 4 weeks. As I point
out to people who think that all they need to see is wet diapers to assess
adequate intake, I can feed a baby sterile water -- she'll starve to death,
but in the meantime, she'll be adequately hydrated and will have lots of wet
diapers.

Jan Barger who is VERY grateful for all her lactfriends.
