Sarah Coulter Danner has a couple great pie charts in her booklet on "beyond
the early days" of breastfeeding.  One circle is divided into sleep, meals,
housework, job, recreation, time with spouse, etc... and the 24 hours are
full.  There's no empty segment anywhere.  The other circle has about 1/3
taken out of it for just 2 categories: "care of your newborn" and "your
physical recovery".  She points out that *everything else* needs to be
squeezed into what's left of this new pie.  The old segments have to be
eliminated or made smaller, because they *cannot* all fit in in the same
proportions they had before.  Sleep now competes for space with housework;
which do you want?  Pretty graphic.  Might even make a nice picture for moms
to put on their bare refrigerator doors, so they get used to having things
stuck there ;-)
