I am just catching up on my reading (post-holiday), and couldn't resist
adding my opinion to Cindy's post of an article on obese women and
breastfeeding.

I am (only) a volunteer counselor, but have personal experience on the
topic.  When I read in the article quoted: <  colleagues from the Mary
Imogene Bassett Hospital and Research Institute in Cooperstown, New
York, found that women who were overweight or obese before becoming
pregnant breastfed for shorter periods of time than those with a normal
pre-pregnancy weight> I laughed.  If this were the case for me, I hate
to think how long my son will breastfeed.

I was 212 prepregnancy, 249 at delivery, and back up to 240 at nearly 4
yrs ppartum.  Although I did not have any of the other complications
noted, I definitely qualify as obese. AND I had no problems starting or
continuing to nurse.  I am still bfing Nicholas, who will be 4 on Feb
15.  Wonder how long he would stay latched on if I was an 'ideal' 110?

Just grist for the mill.
