I have observed babies who slide down and bite or clench when the milk flow
is very fast. I do some test weighing, taking the baby off when I see the
baby slide down, and I also observe for gulping or choking. Often the baby
is squirmy at the breast, not the content body language of a normal flow.
Sometimes you will hear a throat noise after nursing like stridor or
wheezing. I have seen babies doing this while twisting their bodies around
and pulling back on the breast. The test weights always show a huge intake
at that point. Sometimes baby is full and wants to just comfort suck but the
flow is still huge so they slide down to control it. I have had great
success with craniosacral therapy for babies that clamp down with their jaws
but most won't open wide to latch on like it sounds like those two babies
are doing. If the sliding is flow related, CS won't help.
