I tried this at a few LLL meetings. The first time, mums had pretty much
figured out that most of the items were not hugely necessary, sometimes
convenient but that a sling, diapers, and some clothes were all that was
fairly necessary. Another time however, with a different group of women,
the discussion veered off suddenly into where to get the best nursing
pillow, which stores had the best stroller deals, high-end clothing etc.
When the talk turned to the carseats that popped into the stroller ("You
can go straight from the car to the stroller and not have to carry them
everywhere") I saw my co-leader making slashing motions with her hand
and we ended the meeting shortly afterwards, with a few helpful comments
from some other mums. It was very strange.
