Why does it have to be done? What will happen if the mother
waits a few months to get pregnant?

I have 4 kids: with my first I got my period at 11 months,
about the time she weaned.
With my second, he was 13 months when I got my period. He nursed
for 2years total.
My third was 18 months and my 4th 19 months when I got my
period. #3 nursed just over 3 years and #4 nursed 3.5 years.
I know that my history is unusual, but certainly not unheard of.

The point is that this woman will surely begin menstruating
in the next few months. I may be old fashioned, but nursing a 12
month old enough to prevent menstruation and taking clomid to
get pregnant sounds like a backward way to do things.
She can wean partially, perhaps at night, and see if that helps.
If she doesn't want to do that, which I would understand, then
waiting till her child and her body are ready seems a reasonable
thing to do.
Just my .02, not knowing the whole situation.

Naomi
