Dear Karen,

There is lots of stuff in the archives on oversupply/engorgement. In a
really severe case I would recommend:

1. Cabbage leaves worn on all parts of breast, around the clock for
several days.

2. One-sided nursing for 3-5 hours, then switch to the other.

3. Sage tea: 1T. herb to one cup boiling water, let seep at least 10
minutes, drink 3 cups per day; or use a tincture, 30-60 drops, 3-6 times
a day. Some sources caution against epileptics using sage as it may
induce seizures; one of my notes says that purple sage is more potent
than the more common green form. Parsley is also mentioned as an
alternative to sage, use the same way.

Keep a close eye on response to all this - supply may suddenly drop quite
a bit. Let us know if this works.

Warmly,
Sharon Knorr, BSMT, LLLL, IBCLC in Newark, New York (near Rochester)
