The problem is that many of our NYC hospital nurses have not yet learned 
the asymmetrical latch (just plain latch to you Australian and British 
folks, but we've finally gotten it "right".)  It would confuse any mom 
to be told two different things, and have one of them dismissed. When I 
need to teach something different than mom learned postpartum, I tell 
them that what they learned was generic, and my job is to look at both 
her and her baby and come up with something individualized and helpful.
