I always like to point out the many things a Dad CAN do even if mom
is nursing.  I especially like to encourage them totake on the
baths.  Bath time can be Dad's "private" hands-on time baby like
nursing is Mom's "private" hands on time.  (Of course, the hours
aren't equal, but at least Dad has an aspect of the care that is
his.
I also cite the experience when a mom has severe postpartum
complications and is on absolute bedrest.  If dad does everything
but actually feed the baby, he has more "hands-on" time with baby
than mom.
Equal rights and equal responsibility don't have to mean
interchangeable roles.  In our Faith the equality of women and men
is a strong belief.  It is compared to the two wings of a bird.
Both must be of equal strength or the bird will fly in circles.
However, a bird cannot fly with two left wings or two right wings.
I think this analogy works well in the parenting roles.  Both
parents can be equal in importsnce and even time with baby without
splitting every parenting act down the middle.  I suppose the moms
you referred to would love to see the day when Dad is pg 4 1/2 of
the 9 months!
