Interesting discussion. When my children were young I was profoudly influenced by A. Montague's book "Touching". We never have enough! Regarding infants and children, nightime contact is important and perhaps with so many women working, it may be even more important. But what about contact during the day. We see so many infants being carried around in "seats". I encourage parents to purchase carriers-a sling for the mother and a soft carrier for the father. Leave the car seat in the car properly in place. Often, in a hurry a parent will not replace the car seat properly. And car seats placed in the home can be dangerous. When my kids were small, we had two accidents--one child fell off a washing machine in a car seat and another burned her hand on a toaster while in a car seat on the sink.

Carol L'Esperance--whose left hip is higher and left shoulder has bursitis from many years of carrying babies and children--didn't know about "snuglis" until my 3rd baby.
