The marketing director, a very nice gentleman, at Chick-fil-A sent me an
e-mail requesting my help because their e-mail system is still "getting
hit hard" by people wanting to participate in the "Cows Udderly Agree"
campaign, which I had proposed a few weeks ago.

As you know, I also posted the idea on Lactnet, and sent about 25 faxes
to organizations and people with contacts asking all who would be able
to follow through, to let CFA know by e-mail, that if CFA would adopt
the "Cows Udderly Agree" campaign, that they would recieve support to
help defray costs of such a campaign by breastfeeding advocates taking
their families to eat a meal at CFA during World Breastfeeding Week
and/or buying T-shirts.

A few days later, I posted a message that CFA declined to adopt the
promo -- which they did in a very nice manner and as they certainly have
the right to do. I also noted that the CFA cows can NOT be copied in
any manner, (i.e. use of placards, the type of "hoofwriting" and "cow
spelling" , etc.) so that people seeing an ad, or bulletin board would
not wonder if CFA was somehow involved, since they will not be. (CFA is
NOT agaist breastfeeding.....they stated that it WAS a worthy cause;
they simply had made a company policy that their cows advertising
campaign would comply with strict guidelines in order to maintain its
effectiveness.)

I had given my permission for any breastfeeding advocacy group to use
the (my) phrase "Cows Udderly Agree -- Human Milk is Best for Babies" in
response to some e-mailed requests for permission to use it. But, the
cows or ad must not resemble the CFA ad campaingn, as CFA has the rights
to that visual concept.

Please, once again, spread the word that
1. CFA has done nothing offensive, and is NOT against breastfeeding
2. That this was a proposal to them, and there was a no time any
committment from them to participate
3. We need to cease e-mailing them, out of courtesy.

CFA usually tries to respond to each e-mail individually, but since they
have been receiving between 100 and 200 e-mails on this issue per week,
they have had to start sending an automated e-mail. (100 -200 per
week......at least we can see what we are capable of doing by working
together.......and thoses numbers are based on the word getting around
to "cease" attempts. Just think what we could do on an important issue
when we really need to get an opinion across!)

Let's let those poor folks at CFA get back to their job of making those
great chicken sandwiches, lemonade, carrot salads, and other yummy
stuff. PLEASE PASS THE WORD TO STOP E-MAILING THEM!

Thanks,

Sandy
