What is she having the scan for, exactly? An ultrasound is usually done
on a lactating breast, as opposed to mammogram, but I'm not sure what
MRI would be being used for, on breast tissue?

MRI technicians are notorious for saying all sorts of insane things
about breastfeeding and MRI. I was told I couldn't have an MRI on my
ankle, as it would turn my milk into thick clumps. Needless to say, I
had my MRI, and company retraining took place!

There is contra-indication, on some of the radio-active dyes used during
specific types of MRIs. But that doesn't seem to apply here.

I did find this report, that there is a presumed reduction, based on the
mammogram issue. It might be worth suggesting to the Mum, that if the
technicians are concerned about a presumed reduction, the MRI is done in
conjunction with an ultrasound.
