Hi everyone,
I would like your opinion on this one. I had a mom call me last night for advice
and I am not sure what to tell her to expect.
She has had surgery one week ago to remove a large tennis ball sized fibrous
benign tumor form her breast using a one inch incision around the upper part
of her areola. Her baby is 2 months old. She has been pumping to comfort on
that side while it is healing and feeding her baby from the other. Has a large
milk supply so baby is doing fine with one sided feeding, 3rd child. Milk ducts
cut during surgery according to DR. Incision opened a small amount to allow
milk to escape . All healing well. She plans to go back to breastfeeding on that
side this week if comfortable. I advised her that the area of the breast which
had the milk ducts severed will eventually involute and stop leaking out
through the incision while the rest of the breast will continue to make milk for
the baby if stimulated. I just want to make sure I am giving her the correct
info never having dealt with this before. For those of you who have had
experience with this, how long will it take for that part of the breast to
involute and stop leaking out?
Thanks
