Hi,

We have a baby who was transferred to the NICU last evening - baby had turned blue and began "singing", or wheezing loudly at just a few hours of age, due to some unknown respiratory or bronchial problem which is currently being tested.

The baby is being allowed to be breastfed ad lib, and seems to latch fairly well. I noted during the breastfeeding session that baby seems to be making a loud clicking noise through almost all of the feeding.

I have checked the posts on LACTNET archives, and most posts related to clicking are related to an overabundant milk supply which is causing the clicking. I would like to know if anyone has an opinion on a medical reason this clicking would be occuring at just a few hours of age, when all mom has is colostrum. I do have in mind to get someone to check the palate out a bit more thoroughly. Any other suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Brenda Phipps, BS, IBCLC
