Greetings to all of you on lactnet. I have been lurking for several
months now, but I would like to take a little more active part so that
you may get to know me as well as me knowing those of you who contribute
your thoughts. I am Lynne Dawson. I am a Registered Dietitian, I have a
Masters in Education and I am IBCLC certified. I work part time as a
Lactation Educator at a hospital in the Ogden, Utah area. I also teach
nutrition at Weber State University (adjunct faculty). I am wondering if
there are any others lurking out there from Utah. I haven't seen any
posts from this area.
I am also wondering if I can get some collective ideas from you. I
teach a basic nutrition class online. One of the full-time faculty
developed the course. I also teach a traditional class on Maternal and
Infant Nutrition and I would like to adapt it for teaching it online
also. Several weeks of the class emphasize the various aspects of
lactation. I like to do some hands-on work when we talk about proper
latch and positioning, plus I use several videos. Do any of you have
ideas on how to adapt this type of thing for an online class? I have
heard that there are some very good lactation educator classes taught
online, but I have not actually seen them or how they are set up. I have
been told that we cannot use videos in an online class. Do you know
where I can get pictures of proper positioning, latch, etc that would
not be ignoring any copywrite laws to use them in an online class? Also,
do you know any particularly effective teaching methods to use online? I
know we can use streaming and powerpoint presentations. I can also hold
periodic chats in an online chatroom. Any ideas would be greatly
appreciated.
I thoroughly enjoy reading everyones posts and knowing that our
hospital isn't the only one with challenges for the Lactation Dept.
