Hello!  This is my first time posting information on Lactnet.  I am a hospital based lactation counselor and am looking forward to taking the exam next year.  Dr. Leeper's response to the posted questions regarding tracheal malacia was quite informative and appreciated.   I am responding in a personal manner.  My first child was diagnosed with the condition at six weeks old.  He too had labored breathing and an abnormal cry.  The push to breastfeed my son was too great of a goal as he often became apneic. I pumped for the next eight months and bottle-fed breast milk until he was almost one.  This seemed to be the only means of stabilization and growth.  He "grew out" of the dyspnea within the year and the abnormal cry within two.  I'm pleased to say that he is now an active, healthy five year old.
