I have seen many mothers make this choice, as it was strongly encouraged at
the Clinic. Unfortunately, the mothers usually regretted it unless they had a
cesarean birth. For a mom who felt pretty good pp, she would often regret her
decision, b/c she felt very poorly after the surgery. This can be very
difficult to deal with, esp with an infant and other young children to care
for. If the baby was not nursing well, the mom often didn't feel up to
working on bf'ing right away and would tell the nurse to just give a bottle.
We tried to encourage our clients to wait a couple of months if they were
exclusively bf, even though the mom then has to deal w/ separation from an
infant for a few hours. BTW, sometimes moms who waited changed their minds,
which I think is what some moms are afraid of.
