Hello,

I'm posting this question for my co-Leader who is not online. She got a call
from a worried woman looking for information on a study supposedly showing a
correlation between dioxin in breastmilk and endocrine disorders in
children. The caller's husband heard a radio program on NPR this week in
which the researcher (from Maine's Jackson Lab, I believe) discussed her
study and her conclusion that NOBODY should breastfeed. Sorry I don't have
any more details about the study. (A little background: The caller nursed
her older child for 4 years. A few years after he weaned, he was diagnosed
with diabetes. She feels maybe she caused it by breastfeeding him. She is
currently nursing another toddler and very scared by what her husband heard
on the radio).

Did anyone else hear this NPR show? The mother apparently wants to to see a
copy of the study -- anyone heard of it or know how I could find it? Any
suggestions? I did call LLLI but there won't be anyone at the Center for
Breastfeeding Information until Monday. I'd appreciate any information. TIA,

Kate Pennington, LLLL in Newcastle, Maine
