<There is little funding available today for treatment of minor speech
defects and although they sound minor to the public
funder they still have a significant impact on the self-image and personal
development of the person who owes them.>

Well said, Lynn. This was the experience of my youngest daughter. We
fought and fought to get speech therapy, repeatedly told that it wasn't
"severe," didn't impact her learning, etc., etc. Poor thing was teased,
just mortified, subject to repeated correction from adults and peers, etc.
I kept wanting to scream, "If it's so minor, why do you correct her every
time she speaks!" If she wasn't such a social, delightful little bug, with
parents like us (yes, that's a pat on the back), and breastfed a normal
amount of time, I'm sure she would have had a harder time of it.
