The reason there is confusion about the definition of Power Pumping/
Super Pumping is that there were 3 people involved in the idea, and the
three of us had a slightly different way of implementing it. The name
power pumping comes from Leigh Anne O'Connor. I used to use super
pumping, and Kate Sharp used cluster pumping. We put our brains together
and formalized these techniques a little more (keeping the pump out,
keeping the kit together, washing kit every 4-6 hours if baby is full
term and healthy, buying a second kit or refrigerating kit between uses
if baby is preterm; and then using the pump briefly every 45-60 mins to
stimulate a prolactin surge and remove the largest and first MER, or
pumping frequently for short periods to simulate a baby cluster feeding.
