Hello,

A mother of a six month old boy, breastfed with occaisonal pacifier use but
no supplementary foods called me and asked what to do about his nursing
strike. The odd thing about this strike is that sometimes he starts to
breastfeed then immediately gags and spits up. The baby has been to the
doctor, who found nothing wrong with him. When the baby is sleepy he will
sometimes nurse. This has been going on for about 3 days. I did go over the
appropriate steps to help him get back to the breast and protect her supply.
There was one previous strike that lasted about 3 days. The mother started
the pacifier to stop him from sucking his fingers. I did recommend
discontinuing the pacifier. Other than those things the breasfeeding
relationship has been easy and pleasant.

Any ideas about the gagging?

Thank you,
Malka Eitan
