This may not be relevant, but here in UK, the neonatal hearing test (oto-accoustic emissions) is usually done in the home by the Health Visitor when the baby is 10-14 days old.   Babies are only tested in hospital if they are admitted to SCBU for >48 hours.

  We use a portable Echocheck, with an ear piece rather than earphones. Each ear is tested seperately in turn.
  Ideally the baby is tested asleep, but as long as the baby is quiet, feeding or sucking on mums clean finger is as effective as using a dummy (& preferable from the bf point of view)
  IME mum is always present, usually holding the baby.
  Couldn't this be done in hospital too?

  AFAIK circumcisions are not performed in UK hospitals on neonates under the NHS
