Pamela,  I agree with your comments about this phenomenon being a
constellation of factors and about storage capacity being programmed by
early feeding behaviour.  Another aspect I include in the constellation of
factors is that of 'grumbling gums' as teeth buds grow.  For those who can
remember the erratic, painful and lengthy process associated with the
gaining of wisdom (teeth) :-) , it is not too hard to imagine the discomfort
babies may experience.  the gums often look red, slightly oedematous at the
tooth site and so on with all the attendant behaviours. What do others
think? Carolyn
