One of the breastfeeding mothers in my support group noticed that her 5 month
old daughter's eye looked like it wasn't right last week. A trip to the
pediatrician, an opthalmologist, and finally a pediatric oncologist confirmed a
neuroblastoma covering 75% of one of her eyes. The MD said that her retina had
detached which mom noticed right away and went for help. The MD also told her
that it was good she is nursing because she is so close to the baby that she
noticed a change right away, and that most children are 18 months of age before
the parents notice changes.

My question is, does anyone have information about neuroblastomas? She is
having her eye removed today, and depending on whether or not there is optic
nerve involvement, will know if she has to have chemotherapy or radiation
treatments. Would like to have more information to share with these parents.
She bone scan she had did not show any involvement of her bones, thank goodness.
Would appreciate any information.
