This is in response to the request for information on the actual document
on the new HIV and breastfeeding document. I have received a communication
from our UNICEF New York Headquarters about the documents, but have been
waiting to receive a copy in order to provide more meaningful information.

There is the 1997 UNAIDS Policy on HIV and Infant Feeding. Then there are
two documents that have been jointly agreed upon by UNAIDS, WHO, and
UNICEF, and they are titled:

HIV and Infant Feeding: A Guidelines for decision-makers.

HIV and Infant Feeding: A Guide for health care managers and supervisors.

The last two documents are the ones that have been discussed most, it
seems. However, they are still in print by WHO Geneva, and thus I
understand are not yet available. There is also a Press Release on the
web site unaids.org which provides some information.

I hope that this may provide some clarification on the documents in
question. I agree that it is necessary first to know what the policy is
before we can discuss it.
