<I've been racking my brain trying to remember the name of the
breastfeeding
book that was out and about 15 - 20 years ago that advocated the use of
grape
jelly on the mother's nipples to help the baby latch -- also the use of
the
NUK nipple for anything from pacifying the baby to train him to suck
correctly. I think the book was by Ilene Rice, but I could be wrong on
that
too. It had some -- umm -- amazing ideas in it. Anyone else remember
which
book I'm talking about?>

Breastfeeding...A Heartstart; The essential guide to an Optimum
Experience of Love, Trust, Hope, and Growth, Copyright 1982 and 1987 by
Ilene S. Rice, RN, BSN, PH N., IBCLC. p. 154

"If above attempts fail and the baby has had glucose water, you can trade
off to win. Put Jelly on your nipple to attract the baby." Beside it, I
have penciled in "Could this be where the Texas hospital got this?"

I have the book punctuated here and there with stars, exclamation points,
comments such as "Bosh", "I half agree" and "whole truth" beside the
sentence "It is emptying the breasts that signals the milk glands to
secrete more milk."

But I won't repeat what I concluded as a whole, and penned in on the
title page!

Though they are not all in the same league, I also have "Expectant
Motherhood" by Nicholas Eastman and "The Breasts and Breastfeeding" by
Harold Waller. Need I say that I seldom throw anything away?
