Dear Friends,
I'm sorry to say I have not stayed current with postings. Just noted this
subject from last month. I had patients with similar complaint of sudden
absence of milk. Years ago I found reference to a study (in an older edition) in
BREASTFEEDING, A Guide for the Medical Profession. If I recall correctly, it
stated that women who forced fluids (in excess of 6 pints per day) noted a
significant decrease in milk supply. Again we repeated the instructions to drink
to thirst plus monitor for adequate nutrition and found gradual return of milk
supply. I personal conversations at ILCA conferences, others have stated that
they thought the decrease might be due to dilution of prolactin. Inquiring
minds would like to know.
