Everyone, please help me with an email/letter-writing campaign. The
"Propane Education and Research Council" has a new TV ad out that promotes
propane because you can use it to heat the baby's bottle even when the
electricity is out. :(

Scene shows mom asleep in bed, sounds of baby crying. Thunderstorming
outside, electricity out. Shows baby crying in crib. Mother goes in and
gathers up crying baby, goes downstairs with baby in her arms, in dark
house. Turns on the gas -- of course, the gas stove STILL WORKS during the
power outage, which is the point of the commercial -- and heats the baby's
bottle in a pan of water on the stove. Ends with the mother in a rocking
chair giving the baby a bottle of formula. UGH.

Of course, if you were breastfeeding, you wouldn't need propane either. Not
to mention that there is absolutely no reason to warm any baby's bottle --
this is a cultural artifact. Babies are fine with cold formula, if this is
what they are used to. Heating the formula doesn't do anything for, or to,
it.

Anyway, I would like the Propane folks to hear from lots of people that
perhaps they don't want to have propane associated with formula use,
something that we know harms children. Not to mention that it makes them
look stupid, because people watching will be thinking, "Well, that's stupid,
why doesn't she just breastfeed, then she could have the electric stove she
prefers."
