<< 2) May I also learn from LactNet correspondents who have had
experience with mothers using non-electric foot pumps or hand pumps to
get all the baby's milk for six months or so?" >>
i missed answering this the first time, but i just heard that here in
colorado, the WIC program owns many foot operated pumps and loans them to
working mothers who do just fine using them for full-time pumping. they still
err on the side of caution when they can in providing an electric pump for a
mom whose milk supply is not well-established or who is pumping for a baby
who cannot nurse at all. they said the mothers like the foot pumps and seem
to have no problems maintaining supply. i myself had one mother build her
supply back up and pump exclusively for about two weeks with one.
i like them (reminds me of a treadle sewing machine) and, with the real
millenium coming up, remember - they are Y2K compliant!
