I've supported a mother whose little girl got terrible constipation once
even small quantities of solids were introduced. She was fine before, and
during times when she refused solids. I've not heard from her for a while,
she is now weaned, but like the mother you mentioin, this mother was
encouraged to cut down on the bf, but she didn't. The little firl obviously
ahd something wrong, [ she was late sitting up, for example] and various
people sugested she might have some sort of syndrome, but she is/was under
the care of paeds at Great Ormond St Hospital [Leading children's hospital
in London] and they didn't know what it was.
All we could really do is support her in keeping up the breastfeeding for
as long as they both wanted it
Yes, allergies were involved, and she cut out cow's milk, which seemed to
be the main cuplrit. She could tolerate small quantities of buffalo milk
as she got older [yes, I know we don't need milk, but she wanted to be able
to cook a few things inculding milk for the rest of the family -buffalo
milk is surprisingly easy to get hold of in our part of England as there is
a nearby farm with a herd]
She has not found many others who have had a child with this problem
